Newbie English is a mini online tutoring business that focuses on helping students at all levels improve in fun and cooperative ways in all aspects including: verbal, reading, and writing.
Inspiration:
Recently I’ve been engaged in an app called HelloTalk; It enables users to meet and acquaint people from all over the globe with their own distinct languages and cultures. Despite such differences, almost all of them had one thing in common: a passion to learn whether it’s English or any other language. Throughout my time on Hellotalk, many have approached me with a sincere heart and interest in hopes of improving their English. As a native speaker, I was enthusiastic to offer my help. However, with the increasing number of people I met, it became a challenge to attend to the help of everyone without a systematic guidance. In addition, I kept wanting to do more, to further expand my border of support; In direct response to that, I founded Newbie English.
Newbie, in slang describes an amateur or beginner. In that aspect, we as tutors are newbies and have no past experience in this field, but simultaneously conveying that anyone who desires to learn from us are welcomed even if you’re a newbie; We’re all learning together. If you are a Chinese speaker, then you probably caught on to the hidden joke behind our name. Newbie in English, sounds very similar to a Chinese phrase “牛b”, which is a Chinese slang equivalent to the English slang of calling someone or something “The GOAT”. With that being said, we will work our hardest and we look forward to working with everyone!

My name is Annie Wang. I am 16 and I am currently a student at the Thacher School. I have lived in Hangzhou since I was born before I came to the US for high school. One of the things that bring me the most joy is photography and video production. I became interested in photography about three years ago, and to me, photography is a way of recording, sharing, and influencing.
